Are you licensed by the state?

It is a fair question to ask. A licensed baker should not get offended by this question. As it is important to know the baker  you chose has met health safety regulations to protect your family, friends and wedding guests

What are your specialties?

This is a great way to get to know the passion, style and taste specialties of the baker.

How long have you been baking wedding cakes?

The answer to this question is not a deal breaker. We all love experienced bakers who have stood the test of time and have clients that span decades.  A new baker may simply have less experience.  However, less experienced bakers may have ideas that are more in line with your style. The best evaluation is references from other couples.

How are the cakes priced? (By the Slice, flavors or design)

Most bakers calculate the cost of a wedding cake on a cost per slice basis.

1. Does the cost vary depending on the design I chose?

2. Will the the cost increase based on the flavors I choose?

3. Does the wedding cake price include the top tier?

Some bakers do not include the top tier in the overall price.

How do you figure out the per-slice cost?
Most bakers have a basic per-slice cost; the price rises when you add “extras,” like a more elaborate design or a more exotic filling.

Can you design a cake to match my dress or wedding color scheme, theme?

The answer should be yes. Your cake should be in the design you chose.

If I provide a picture of a cake I want designed, can you recreate it for my wedding?

The answer should be yes. Your cake should be the design you chose

Does it cost extra for a custom design?
The answer will depend on the amount of details and hours it will take for the baker to design the custom design.

Is it possible to have flowers used in my bouquet on the wedding cake?

The answer should be yes.  Ask your how to coordinate how you should get the flowers from the florist to him or her. The flowers should be chemical free.

What flavors are available?

Although the baker may have a menu of options.  Never forget that it is your day, and your cake, so they will be willing to make a cake with your favorite flavor even if it is not their flavor specialty.

What ingredients do you use?

Even if it is not on the baker’s menu, they may use any flavor you desire. As it is your day.

What are my options for vegan and guests with allergies.

Ask your baker if she can make a gluten-free cake. If the answer is no, then ask if they know of a gluten free baker specifically for those guests with allergies.

What are the payment terms for my wedding cake?

Bakers usually require a deposit ranging from $50 to 50% of the cake order in order to schedule your cake on a specific date.  The balance is typically due 14 – 30 days before the wedding delivery date.

What are your delivery costs and services?

Even though you are purchasing your dream wedding cake from a baker. Most bakers charge a delivery charge. As it takes gas and time to deliver the cake.  It is also important to ask what time on your wedding date will the cake will be delivered.

Do you guarantee no problems with the delivery and if there is an issue will you correct it onsite?

Is there an additional fee for any cake touch ups to be made from delivery errors?

Will there be any additional charges and rental fees?

Additional fees are usually not included in the price to bake a wedding cake. These fees could include additional charges for rental of the cake platter, cake stand, mirrors, pillars, plates, utensils, cutlery, etc.

Bakers sometimes offer you a choice of styles for display plates which may require a rental deposit. The rental deposits are usually given back when you return the plates undamaged and on time.
Do not forget to ask the baker how much time after the wedding you will have to return them.

What are the additional fees if for some reason they are returned late.

Designate a friend or family member to return the items for you while you are on your honeymoon or return them the day of the wedding.

A cost cutting strategy is to ask if the board under-lay can be decorated to match the cake.  Also it may be cheaper to purchase your own cake stand or use one from a family member to create a tradition.

What is your refund policy?

How soon before the wedding will you actually bake my wedding cake?

Baking a wedding cake is not normally completed in one day as it is labor-intensive. Avoid freezing your cake because you want a fresh, moist & delicious cake. Most bakers will prepare your wedding cake layers in advance.  Most bakers complete your cake  two to three days before your wedding.

Will you personally deliver the cake to my wedding?

If you have scheduled a cake delivery, ensure that the baker or cake decorator will be on site for any needed corrections or last minute touch on your wedding day.

Do you have references from other couples?

Once you have determined the price is right & the cakes are delicious, ask for references from recent weddings.

Can I set up a cake-tasting appointment?

The cake testing should only be schedule after you understand the pricing of the baker.  You can fall in love with a baker who is within your budget. Thus first ensure that the price matches your goal before you sample the cakes.

What is the timeline that I should finalize my wedding cake order?

Ask the baker you have chosen when you need to place your order to ensure their availability on your wedding date. Remember in every stage of the wedding planning process, sooner is always better than later.

All bakers are unique and their policies are different.

Please Google marriage license and your state. The most common places to apply are city hall, the city clerk’s office, the town clerk’s office or the marriage license bureau in the county where you plan to wed

Some states will require an appointment to apply for your license.

However, in most states you simply can walk in and apply.

All states require both parties be present when applying for a marriage license.

The officiant will ask for a copy of the marriage license prior to performing the ceremony.  Then after the actual wedding has occur your officiant will sign and then send the signed license to the marriage license bureau.

The marriage Licensing authority in your area will mail you a certified copy within their timeline.

Please go prepared with official copies of the following items:

• Birth certificates for both parties

• Driver’s License or state identification or

• US Passports

If this is your second marriage. Please provide the following:

• divorce decree or a

• death certificate
